Best Fantasy Sites and Contests for NFL Week 13

Last night’s Packers vs. Eagles game brought a long Week 12 to its final conclusion and now brings us into a new week of fantasy football. Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay set the tone early with a first-drive touchdown march down the field and never slowed down from there. The Eagles responded with a touchdown on their own first drive to even the score, but the Eagles defense was unable to contain the Green Bay offense and ended up falling 27-13 on home territory.

Last week’s big fantasy football contests were likewise dominated by players who ran up the score and coasted to easy victories. As RotoGrinders reports, two fantasy players took down two of the three big guaranteed prize pool contests at both FanDuel and DraftKings. Travman8 took down the DraftKings Millionaire and $1.2M Play-Action to walk away with more than a million dollars, while hctrucker89 took down the Sunday Million and Sling TV Rush over at FanDuel for $300,000 in prize money.

It goes to show that the right daily fantasy lineup can literally be worth a million dollars. It’s crazy to think that of all the players lined up to play in NFL Week 13, there is a specific combination out there that when input into your lineup will result in a six or seven figure payday. Easier said than done, of course, but still, it will happen for someone this week. And next week. And the week after that…

And speaking of which, we are into a new week right and the time to start making those selections is now. FanDuel and DraftKings are both going to be hosting another round of big guaranteed prize pool tournaments and handing out more money in the form of promotions. Today, as usual, we will be discussing both.

Biggest Week 13 Guaranteed Prize Pool Tournaments

Every week brings with it new GPP tournaments and new opportunities to snag a big score. Even if you don’t take first place in the Sunday Million, there is still a lot of money flowing around in daily fantasy between the thousands of other tournaments and cash games that happen every week.

The best Week 13 GPPs take place at FanDuel and DraftKings as usual. Both sites are excellent places to play fantasy football online, but each takes a slightly different approach to organizing its biggest contests. FanDuel tends to go with events that have fewer competing entries (which makes it easier to win) at the cost of a smaller total prize pool. DraftKings tends to offer contests with huge prize pools, but at the cost of having way more entries (which makes it more difficult to win).

Here’s a quick recap of the biggest contests at each site.

New and Ongoing Promotions

We’re in the middle of a bit of a lull as far as new promotions go, but there are still some good opportunities to take advantage of at this point in the season. Both fantasy sites are drawing near to their flagship championship live events and Week 13 may be the last chance you get to enter a qualifier or two and reserve your spot in the biggest daily fantasy contests of the year.

FanDuel: Last Chance to Qualify for $5M World Championship

The World Fantasy Football Championship (WFFC) is FanDuel’s biggest event of the year and qualifiers are running this week. If you win an online qualifier, FanDuel will send you to California to compete in the WFFC in a 100-person contest with $5 million in guaranteed prizes.

What’s best about the WFFC is everyone who makes it to the live final gets paid no matter what. First place is worth $1 million, but all 100 people get paid at least $10,000. Plus, you get a free trip to California just for winning your online qualifier.

Qualifiers will be running this week starting on Thursday at prices ranging from $12 to $5,000. The higher the buyin, the fewer players you compete against for an invitation to the live final. Your trip and live final will take place from December 16th through the 18th in California with all your travel expenses paid for by FanDuel.

FanDuel: Single Entry Series

The FanDuel Single Entry Series Presented by RotoGrinders is a contest in which you enter a special contest each weekend from November 27th through December 24th. At the end of it all, FanDuel will tally up your four-highest point totals in each contest. The six players with the highest points totals will then compete in a six-person final with $25,000 up for grabs. Simply making it to the final ensures a prize:

  • 1st Place: $10,000
  • 2nd Place: $6,000
  • 3rd Place: $4,000
  • 4th Place: $2,500
  • 5th Place: $1,500
  • 6th Place: $1,000

There are two different routes you can take to qualify. The “Spike Single Entry Series” costs just $5 while the “Hot Route Single Entry Series” costs $50. Then, the three highest-rated players from each series move on to compete in the six-person final.

Both routes lead to the same destination; the only difference in the two are the prizes you get along the way if you place high, but not high enough to be invited to the final. Here’s how the prizes break down in each series.

DraftKings: Last Chance to Qualify for $10M World Championship

The $10 Million Fantasy Football World Championship (FFWC) hosted by DraftKings happens on December 11th for NFL Week 14. Time is running very short, but there are still a few chances left to earn your spot, win a trip to New York City and compete in the biggest contest of the year.

The FFWC is even bigger than FanDuel’s big event. This one has $10 million guaranteed with room for 180 players. First place in the live final is worth $2 million, second place is worth $1 million and the prizes go down from there all the way to 180th, which is still good for $15,000. All you have to do is qualify online and you know that the absolute worst case scenario is a tree trip to the Big Apple and $15,000. With only 180 people in the contest, there is a very good chance you’ll do even better.

One last round of qualifiers will run for Week 13’s Sunday slate. You can qualify for as little as $4 and this weekend is your last chance. At that price, it’s worth a shot. This would be the opportunity of a lifetime, not to mention the possibility of coming back home with an extra $2 million in your savings account.

DraftKings: Expanded Casual Contest Offering

Casual contests have proven exceptionally popular at DraftKings, so they have decided to expand their casual contests lineup. Casual contests are run like any other fantasy football contest except for one key distinction: highly experienced players are not welcome. These contests are only open to players who do not have experience badges next to their names.

You can find all the casual contests by going to the DraftKings lobby, selecting “NFL” at the top and then activating the “Casual” filter on the left side of the screen. I took a look myself this afternoon and saw hundreds of casual contests open for business. These include smaller tournaments, 50/50 games, heads-up contests and even a few major GPPs.

The biggest casual contest this week comes with a guaranteed $325,000 prize pool for just $5 with a first place prize of $25,000.

DraftKings: Free $5,000 Contest

The producers of Incarnate are sponsoring a free $5,000 guaranteed contest this week at DraftKings. This contest has no cap on how many people enter, so don’t expect to go in and just win this on accident. It’s going to take a very good team to even earn a prize (top 880 entries get paid). But hey, it’s completely free so you might as well toss in a lineup and see what happens. You have nothing to lose.

The first, second and third place finishers get $100 plus a signed Incarnate movie poster. Prizes go down from there all the way to 880th, which is good for $3. This is not the biggest or best fantasy contest of all time, but it is completely, 100% free to enter.
